Review Questions:

 

1. What is ethics, and how can it be distinguished from morality?

Ethics is defined as persons own characteristics, ethics difference from morality is, morality is the right doing, ethics is practicing the right doing

 

2. What is meant by a moral system? What are some of the key differences between the "rules of conduct" and the "principles of evaluation" that compromise a moral system?

 

Moral system differentiates the right or wrong things. Its purpose is preventing harm and suffering.

 

3. What does Bernard Gert mean when he describes morality in terms of a "public system"? Why is the notion of "personal morality" an oxymoron? 

Everyone knows a certain point in life that they are right in one thing. But most of the time they are 50/50. you have to prove it.

4. Why does Gert believe that morality is an "informal" system? How is a moral system both similar to, and different from, a game?

Morality is informal because it has no system

 

5. Describe how the ideals of "rationality" and "impartiality" function in Gert's moral system.

 

A moral system is a rational thinking that is based on reasonable logic for an ordinary person/

 

6. What are the values and what are some of the key differences between moral values and nonmoral values?

 

Values are things in which one’s self grows or mature in doing things the right way. Moral values are good things based on that we do based on sources.non normal values are things in which we think if its right or wrong, good or bad.

 

7. How do religion, law, and philosophy each provide different grounds for justifying a moral principle?

 

Religion is our belief in good principles of life. Which are moral philosophies. Law is based on what is right or wrong.

8. What is the method of philosophical ethics and what is a philosophical study?

 

Philosophical ethics is a form of social disapproval. A philosophical study is a study that shows hypothesis and theories which may arise to a point.

 

9. How does philosophical study differ from a descriptive study? Rather than normative in nature?

 

Philosophical studies are based on the studies of philosophers. Everyone has a different way of studying.

 

 

10. Summaraize the four diff. kinds of "discussion stoppers" in ethical discourse.

1.     People Disagree on Solutions to Moral Issues

2.     Who Am I to judge others?

3.     Morality is Simply a Private Matter
